V. AZARENKA/A. Ivanovic
6‑0, 4‑6, 6‑3

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What changed between the first and second set? It's like a different Ana came out on the court?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I don't necessarily agree. First four games I had basically 40‑15 in every game, so I was very disappointed to lose it in that manner.
In the second set I did start to play a lot better. It's quite disappointing that I didn't use some opportunities I had in the third set, because I felt like I did have.
Just made some errors at the not right times definitely.

Q. Consistency was big in that match. You were on top of her at times but she kind of maintained a certain level and doesn't miss that much.
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, definitely. She's No. 3 player for reason. I felt like I gave her too many easy points, especially at the important moments, like 40‑All or deuces.
And in that first set also I had so many chances and I just wasn't as aggressive as I should have been.
That's, again, that belief against these kind of players. If you give her chances, she's going to use them. I created actually a lot of chances, and if I just managed to convert couple of those could have been a different match.

Q. Must have been feeling pretty good going into the third set though, no?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, I was on a high and I really felt like I started really well that third set. I had a couple loose games at 2‑1. She was playing some good tennis. She was striking the ball really deep and putting me under pressure.
Still I felt like I could have come back. On that game on 4‑3 when she was serving 3‑all, I had a chance and just didn't do the right thing. That was very frustrating.
These kept repeating throughout the match.
But like I said, a lot of positives to take out of this week and this match.

Q. It's not unusual for you, but during the match you're riding a bit of an emotional roller coaster, no?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah.

Q. You've very positive, then you get frustrated, positive, frustrated...
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, this is something that I really have to work on for the next events and matches. I did feel like I was positive throughout match, but it's just that the intensity was lacking at some points.
So this is something I really want to work hard on so it doesn't happen so much.
It's very frustrating.

Q. In English, translated in English, what's the word that you often say to yourself after a great point? You have the first pump and you wen ‑‑ in English.
ANA IVANOVIC: It's, Come on.

Q. And the language?
ANA IVANOVIC: Serbian, yeah.

Q. Talk about her level, because she just came back. She played well at times, and at times it looked like you were doing all the dictating. At times with her she can be more aggressive, but you were the one pretty much in charge a lot, no?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, I think because the way she plays and they was handles herself on the court you assume the ball is coming a lot harder. Few times on the court I was too far because it wasn't as hard and I felt like I could step up a little more and dominate.
This is something that I was frustrated that I didn't do more throughout the match.

Q. So this is your first week without a head coach?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah.

Q. So how did that go for you? Semifinals. You took her to three sets. Not so bad.
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, I mean, it's been really good week for me. It takes time for things to fall into place and get to know each other, so it's never easy. We've been really good together. The whole team has been enjoying as well.
Couple of them didn't really travel so much, were not so involved in tennis, it's kind of refreshing as well. It's nice to get that new excitement and new voice as well.
I really enjoyed my time, and I'm really looking forward to the next week.

Q. So the fitness and the trainer, they're not really following tennis? You have to tell them when you're winning games?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, with my fitness coach I had to explain to him, and at Wimbledon he walked through while the girls were playing points in practice. I said, You can't do that. (Laughter.)
Even when I was playing points he was running on the side. I was like, No, you have to stay.
But the fitness coach, he did train some tennis players back home and we've been working. I know him for a long time, so he does know a little bit more.

A. IVANOVIC/S. Hsieh
6‑1, 6‑2

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Welcome back to Toronto. What do you intend to focus on during this tournament, something that you perhaps brought back from the previous matches?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, thanks. It's good to be back here. I'm really looking forward to consistency and especially coming off how I played well last week. I hope keep that momentum going and to keep playing well here.

Q. You're by no means an older player, but for somebody who had success at such a young age, to find success again at 25, what does that say about the tour and what does it say about your maturity? We seem to be seeing a lot of that around the tour where a lot of older players are finding a lot more success now.
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I think, you know, with every experience and every year we are different in a way. We mature, we grow up, we were young, we get older. It really is at the moment how you feel, and I do feel very fit physically and I don't feel old in that sense.
So I'm really happy to be playing some good tennis again and to be enjoying the process, as well.

Q. Do you think the women's game, because it's such a power game now, that you almost need to be physically more mature to have success versus being a 19‑year‑old and just not strong enough?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I think it's a lot of mentality these days, because the technology has improved so much. A lot of players do work hard, and it's probably the easiest thing to do is to make a program and work hard. It's about putting it all together and being mentally strong in tough moments, because many times in the matches the line is so fine that you don't even notice how few points can change the match.

Q. Do you adjust your fitness preparation according to the challenges you're facing in your matches?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, definitely. And now I have a full‑time fitness coach traveling with me. I will leave all that up to him.

Q. Have you had any time to, you know, explore Toronto at all, or do you enjoy coming here? Talk about your experience here in the city.
ANA IVANOVIC: I actually love coming here. I haven't had chance this year to go anywhere yet. Hopefully later in the week. But in the past, I did go to Niagara Falls and that was really nice experience.
Also, I have a childhood friend who lives here now, so that's also another nice thing to do and catch up.

Q. With regards to the timing of the event where it's placed between Wimbledon and the Open and some of the other players dropping out, can you talk a little bit about how that affects this event and maybe your preparation for it, trying to rest up your energy but also win this event?
ANA IVANOVIC: It's such a great event and the field is very, very strong. I know there were a few pullouts in the last moment, but still the field is very strong, a lot of good players. I think it's a great preparation, and the organization is really good. They really take care of players. It's always fun to come back here and perform.
The fact that it alternates between Toronto and Montreal, I think it's another nice way for us and for fans, too.

Q. You obviously had some struggles years ago. I'm just wondering how you're feeling about your game these days and to be where you are in the rankings. Are you pleased with that?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, it always can be better, but I definitely enjoy now the process and the work I'm putting in.
I did make some changes after Wimbledon and took some time off and really set up a new team, a new plan, new goals, and this is something that's really helped me to be, you know, composed and calm and to get that consistency I was looking for for a while.

Q. You just mentioned you set up a new plan and some new goals. Can you share any of them?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, definitely. I mean, I really now want to focus on getting more consistency and not thinking too much, you know, ahead of winning tournaments or just basically taking it one step at a time, being more in the present moment and also to have fun in the process because, you know, it's not easy traveling all the time and everything. We get caught up in that kind of machine, and it's very easy to get down on yourself.
It's just about enjoying and being constructive every time I step on the practice court, too, and always having something to focus on and not just going out there to play but also finding fun in all that.

Q. How do you measure that? How will you measure, you know, that? Are there any concrete things you're looking for?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I have a good team around me now. We will do that together. It's very important. There's always some little things you look forward to in events, and, you know, it's nice. You know, we're very fortunate to be doing what we love.

A. IVANOVIC/F. Pennetta
6‑4, 6‑4

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. How injured are you? Talk about what happened there.
ANA IVANOVIC: I'm going to go to physio now and have a little bit more treatment. I think it's just a little strain. I felt it a little bit in the end of the first set.
But hopefully it's just a little bit of tension and tightness.

Q. Was it your hip or groin?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, it's like sort of high in the hip.

Q. You looked pretty concerned though when you called the trainer.
ANA IVANOVIC: I was a little scared, because I iced it in 3‑0 in the second set, and then it got worse, and then after I warmed up it was better again.
So I really hope that, you know, making everything loose will be okay.

Q. So you have had it before something like this?
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I'm sure I did. I have been through so many aches and pains, but now I feel it still a bit, so hopefully they can release it and it's just like a strong muscle pain and maybe a little, just, yeah...

Q. But a pretty good fight overall, almost two hours, lots of long points?
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, it was very tough. It was breezy at times. It was really tough match. I started off really well. Then I did make a few more errors of my forehand side that I don't normally do.
But, you know, she played well and she hung in there and we had lots of tough rallies and very pleased to manage to close it at the end.

Q. What did you think of your luck tonight? The ball kept hitting the net and bouncing back about four times.
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, you know what? With that last net call that I had, it makes everything up for. It was pretty good moment to hit one.

Q. What do you think was the biggest struggle for you out of this match other than that leg injury?
ANA IVANOVIC: I think it was just very frustrating that, you know, I was making quite a few errors of my forehand side and I didn't convert many of the breakpoints and chances that I had.
This was something that, you know, I was very frustrated with.

Q. You have Li Na. I think you played her once in 2006. You retired, which is kind of incredible, given that you have both been around the top of the game for a long time, huh?
ANA IVANOVIC: Actually I do remember now. I thought I never played her, but I do remember. I won the first set and then I pulled out. It was in Berlin, wasn't it?

Q. Yeah.
ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, it's incredible, I think. It's going to be a tough match. We did practice a few times, and obviously I have seen her play a lot.
I look forward to that match. I think it's going to be exciting match to play.

Q. She's kind of I wouldn't say a completely different matchup, but she has a lot of different weapons, moves well, coming into net a lot. Talk about her a bit more.
ANA IVANOVIC: Like I said, it's always different when you sort of feel the ball and you are head to head against someone. Watching her play, she's a lot more solid, heavy shots, very strong player and does serve very well and hits deep.
So I think it's going to be very important to hang in the points and look for the opportunities to come in, because she's a top player, so I really have to move forward and take the opportunities I have.

Q. I understand you must know that the guys are going to be playing here tomorrow night, the men players?
ANA IVANOVIC: No.

Q. Lopez and Tomic are playing an exhibition.
ANA IVANOVIC: Really?

Q. Yes, first match on. Your thoughts on having the ATP players playing prominent center‑court matches while the women are still here.
ANA IVANOVIC: Okay. I didn't know. Really?

Q. None of you guys know about it. I don't know why. Yes.
ANA IVANOVIC: That's why we have you guys. (Smiling).

Q. Exactly.
ANA IVANOVIC: Well, I mean, is it exhibition?

Q. It's an exhibition.
ANA IVANOVIC: I mean, it's fun. It's definitely fun. Who is playing in Montreal from the girls?

Q. Nobody. Exactly.
ANA IVANOVIC: It's not fair. (Smiling).
They should have some of us go there.

Q. I mean, is that seriously your thought? If the guys are going to play exhibitions here, then maybe ‑‑because it's the first‑round losers playing here.
ANA IVANOVIC: So why not? It's a nice mixup, so it's nice that actually we alternate, so I think that the public gets to see guys one year and girls the other, but, you know, if they are coming here, why not send a couple of girls there? (Smiling).

Ana Ivanovic poses on the September cover of Serbia’s Cosmopolitan magazine. Inside, she talks about marriage and… a proposal?

“I have never been even close to marriage, it is not a time for that yet. Though, I was approached by one brave boy as I left the court after a match in Australia, and he asked me to marry him. When I asked him how old he is, he told me ‘Sixteen, but I can wait.’”

Nisam gledala :beyond:
