Rafael Nadal Parera je rodjen 03.06.1986. u mestu Manacor, na Mallorci u Spaniji. Interesantno je da je sa istog ovog ostrva i Carlos Moya.
Najuzu porodicu mu cine otac Sebastian, majka Ana Marija i mladja sestra Maria Isabel.

U prilog toj njihovoj prici o njegovoj skromnosti i normalnosti ide i to sto on zivi i plaznira zauvek da zivi u svom rodnom mestu.

Rafael Nadal, a two-time runner-up at Crandon Park, is hoping to make it third time lucky this year.
Rafael Nadal praised Novak Djokovic for his fine start to the 2011 season at the Sony Ericsson Open on Friday.

"I think he's a very complete player because he can play on all of the surfaces very good, and that's an advantage," said Nadal. "He started better than possible, so he's in a very good position.

"What he's doing well is he's playing with confidence. His level probably is not much higher than [it was] three years ago or two years ago or one year ago. I always saw him as fantastic player. His potential always was very, very high. Everybody knows how good is him, and he can do what he's doing now.

"My relationship with him always was fantastic. We are close. I think he's a funny guy."

Despite losing to Djokovic in the BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells on Sunday, Nadal feels that he can improve at Crandon Park, the venue of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.

Nadal has a 21-7 Miami tournament record, which includes two runner-up finishes in 2005 (l. to Federer) and 2008 (l. to Davydenko).

"[I can improve] a lot of things. I think during the [Indian Wells] tournament I didn't play really good. It wasn't a good level for me. Semi-finals and final I improved my level of tennis, but during the final my serve worked terribly.

"So that's the first thing. I have to serve better if I want to have chances to compete against all the players. And from the baseline, seriously, I think I finished the tournament playing much better than the beginning of the tournament. So that's always a very positive thing."

With 18 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies on his mantelpiece in Mallorca, Nadal has won at six different elite tournaments over the past six years. "I play every tournament with the same motivation," he said.

"[It] is impossible [to] win in every place. I just accept the challenge and try to play my best tennis. That's [the] only way to win the tournament where all the best players of the world are playing.

"I love the competition. Tennis is my sport."

Nadal plays Japan's Kei Nishikori in the Sony Ericsson Open second round.

ROLAND GARROS 2011
NADAL DENIES FEDERER TO WIN SIXTH ROLAND GARROS CROWN
Paris, France
by ATP Staff | 05.06.2011

Rafa.jpg

Rafael Nadal won his 10th Grand Slam championship.
World No. 1 Rafael Nadal won a record-equalling sixth Roland Garros crown on Sunday as he defeated rival Roger Federer 7-5, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-1 in Sunday’s final in Paris.

The 25-year-old Nadal joined Bjorn Borg as the second player in history to win six titles at the clay-court Grand Slam championship. The Spaniard won four successive titles from 2005-2008 (defeating Federer in the ’06-’08 finals) and regained his trophy last year with victory over Robin Soderling.

Victory for Nadal guarantees him the No. 1 spot in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings on Monday. Had Federer won, Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic would have climbed to the top of the rankings.

Just three days after his 25th birthday, Nadal won his 10th major singles title in his 12th final. In addition to his six victories in Paris, the Mallorcan has won Wimbledon twice, in 2008 and 2010, he lifted the Australian Open trophy in 2009, and last year completed the career Grand Slam with victory at the US Open. His only defeats in Grand Slam finals have come against Federer, at Wimbledon in 2006-2007.

He is the second youngest player, behind Borg to win 10 Grand Slam championships; Borg was 24-years and 30-days old when he won his 10th title at 1980 Wimbledon. The Swede was also just one day younger than Nadal when he won his sixth Roland Garros title in 1981.

Nadal came into Roland Garros having fallen slightly short of his perfect standards from the year before. In 2010 the left-hander had completed a clean sweep of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournaments in Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome, but this year was beaten by Djokovic in the finals at Madrid and Rome.

The Manacor native was then taken to five sets at Roland Garros for the first time when American John Isner forced him to fight back from two-sets-to-one down in the first round. He fought through his early difficulties, though, and it was vintage Nadal who dismantled Andy Murray in the semi-finals before defeating Federer in three hours and 40 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier on Sunday.

World No. 3 Federer was bidding to win his 17th major title and triumph at Roland Garros for the second time, having beaten Soderling in the 2009 final to complete the career Grand Slam. It was his fourth runner-up finish at Roland Garros, and his seventh defeat in a major final – all have come at the hands of Nadal.

The Swiss, who had been somewhat eclipsed by the achievements of Nadal and Djokovic in the lead-up to Roland Garros, hit his stride in Paris as he advanced to the final having spent just 12 hours and 52 minutes on court, compared to 17 hours and 17 minutes for Nadal. In the semi-finals, Federer had ended Djokovic’s 41-match winning streak in 2011 with victory in four sets to reach his first Grand Slam final since beating Murray at the 2010 Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal: the perfect package?
Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Image

Rafa Nadal seemed the perfect package to promote the game as he established himself in its higher echelons. A champion. A ruthless on-court 'killer'. An off-court gentleman; gracious in defeat, humble in victory. Someone with dark, lank-haired bandana-ed rock star looks. A family-orientated, home-loving individual eschewing the party scene. A series of contradictory characteristics which dovetailed to the centimetre.

Yet something was missing. He might have won four French Opens and the hearts of the young and old in and out of the game but legendary status had not been bestowed on him. The moment duly arrived on Wimbledon's Centre Court on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 9.16pm. The yellow lights of the scoreboard flickered in the growing dusk. They spelt out that Nadal had defeated Roger Federer to seal the men's title.A win over five sets and almost five hours, with two rain delays thrown in (a year before the roof was operational ), enshrined Nadal in the pantheon of tennis greats.

It meant that he had become the first player since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win the French Open and the Championships in the same year. It confirmed that the billing of Nadal v Federer had equalled the potency of either Sampras v Agassi or McEnroe v Borg. It also saw him become the first Spaniard since Manuel Santana in 1966 to win the coveted crown.

But what gained him entry into the exclusive legends club was that he had emerged the victor in a match hailed the greatest ever played by many, including John McEnroe, for the planet's greatest title on the world's greatest court.

It had been coming, of course. Inching ever closer in the two previous finals, both against Federer, a defeat in four sets in 2006 and one by five in 2007. His Swiss opponent might have equalled Bjorn Borg's record of five successive Wimbledon wins but the hot breath of a genuine rival to his supremacy on the lawns of London SW19 was burning the back of his neck.

The match which secured him his second men's singles success at the All England Club last summer after injury forced his absence in 2009 did not have the experts reaching for their dictionary of superlatives. But the routine three sets win over Tomas Berdych, the Czech Republic player who had accounted for defending champion Federer and Serb Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively, firmly underlined his credentials as a master of grass.

Question marks had been placed against Nadal's name when it came to discussing his ability to adapt his game to the natural surface which Santana, also a French Open champion on the red clay of Roland Garros, had once described as being more suited to cows than his own game.

The King of Clay, an epithet attached to Nadal from his first Slam triumph in the City of Light in 2005, had a different outlook. His energy to run down lost causes, patience to construct points and ability to put such a heavy spin on a pulverising left-handed forehand while minimising mistakes were qualities made for performing on clay. To break the will of almost all opponents on it. He knew though that alterations in his style had to be made for him to be a true force on the quicker, slicker green sward.

His early Wimbledon appearances in The Championships left the jury out on whether he could manage it. His Wimbledon main draw debut in 2003 saw him fall in the third round to Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan and little-known Gilles Muller from Luxembourg beat him a round earlier in 2005 after the Majorcan has missed 2004.

With his uncle and coach Toni, however, he stuck to the task of tailoring his game to provide a good-enough fit, and everyone has discovered just how well since the summer of 2008. As Nadal himself puts it: "I improve my tennis. I can slice some more balls, I can go to the net more times. The confidence is not so much different, it is that I have more options."

No-one would bet against him completing a hat-trick of Wimbledon successes as he steps out on court for the first time in defence of his title this year, having missed the opportunity to do so through injury after his classic against Federer.

His sixth French Open crown was lifted - equalling another Borg record - in this year's final against Federer at Roland Garros on June 5. It added to 2009 Australian and 2010 US Open glory. But his non-Wimbledon Grand Slam triumphs merely add layers to the foundation of stardust which covered him as he bit the trophy inscribed 'All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World' in his trademark style that magical Sunday summer evening three years ago.

Nadal: I am going to get even better
Sunday, 19 June 2011

by Ian Baker

They used to say Rafael Nadal could not win tournaments on grass. Even the Spaniard used to admit it himself. Having been brought up on the dusty clay courts of his home island of Majorca, Nadal never enjoyed similar success on the pristine grass of the All England Club during his formative years.

A natural baseliner, Nadal found the going tough on the quicker surfaces of SW19 and in particular against Roger Federer's more natural grass court game. But having put the disappointments of final defeats to his great rival in 2006 and 2007 behind him, top seed Nadal is the one to beat - on all surfaces.

The 25-year-old has not lost at Wimbledon since 2007. Winner in 2008 and last time out (he withdrew in 2009), Nadal says hard graft was the key to conquering his demons. "I said one thousand times that my dream always was to play well here in Wimbledon," he insisted. "That's true. At the beginning of my career everybody said that my style of game would make it very difficult to play very well here. But I worked a lot and I put all my best into every practice. The only problem with grass is if you play against a big, big server, because the game is too fast and is not nice to play and for a lot of games you don't touch the ball. But if you play against a normal player, a good serve that you can return the ball, in my opinion, the game from the baseline is fantastic to watch and is fantastic to play because you can slice, you can go to the net, you can play aggressive. If you play too defensive is impossible to play here. But you have different options to do. I love to do that."

Nadal has only seldom come to the net in previous years but believes that is one aspect of his game that can improve this time around. "On grass, the surface helps you to go a little bit more to the net," he said. That's something that is not a problem for me. I don't have the volley of Roger, for sure. But I think I'm fast and my movements are enough good to go to the net. I think I have enough experience and enough good volleys to do it."

Nadal plays his first match of the tournament against American Michael Russell on Monday. And in a stark warning to Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, he insists he is still getting better. "I think I try my best every day to keep improving my tennis," he added. "I wake up every day in order to practice with the illusion to be better player than day before. I think I'm a more complete player than few years ago, I am sure on that. But being better doesn't mean that you going to win more. Because winning or losing depends on different facts and small things. I love to play big matches. I love to play in big stadiums like here, historic stadiums like Wimbledon. So for me, when I start playing my first match of the tournament in the Centre Court that is a dream."

The parents of Rafael Nadal – Ana Maria and Sebastian – are back together after they separated two years ago. They appeared side by side in the Royal Box for Rafael’s opening-round win on Monday and an impeccable source has confirmed that they have indeed reunited.

Their split before the 2009 French Open, when Rafael was upset by Robin Soderling in the round-of-16, had a devastating effect on him. In fact, a member of his inner circle once claimed that the break-up was a bigger factor in his loss to Soderling than the tendonitis problem he had in both knees, a problem that kept him out of tennis for two months.

The good news can only have a positive effect on the world No. 1’s game going forward.

RAFA OPENS WIMBLEDON TITLE DEFENCE WITH A WIN
BACK TO NEWS ARCHIVE
06 20 2011, LONDON, ENGLAND

Rafa Nadal has won his opening match at Wimbledon, recovering from a slow start to beat Michael Russell 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. The Spaniard took the honour of opening play on Centre Court as the defending champion and needed one hour and 58 minutes to book his place in the second round where he will face American Ryan Sweeting.

"It's a very, very big emotion to come back to this beautiful court," Rafa, who was unable to defend his title two years ago because of injury, told BBC Sport. "I never played here like this because I didn't play the first match in 2009. It's a real pleasure."

"It was so-so in the first set, but after that I started to hit my forehand very well," Rafa said of his performance He has now won his last 15 matches at the All England Club, his last defeat coming in the 2007 final.

THE MATCH
As the anticipated rain stayed away, play began with the Centre Court open to the elements and it was the 33-year-old Russell who made the early running. A fine lob and a sharp volley set up break point for the American in game six, and Rafa then double-faulted to fall 4-2 behind.

Russell, ranked 90th in the world, had won just once in four previous visits to Wimbledon, and there was barely enough time for spectators to take on board his surprise lead before Nadal had come storming back into the match.

The Spaniard took control of proceedings witrh his forehand and, despite gamely running down everything possible, Russell could do little to stop six games in a row passing him by.

When he was left lying face down on the Centre Court turf after succumbing to a Nadal barrage, the second set too was a done deal, Russell managing one break to his opponent's three.

Nadal was totally dominant on serve in the third, breaking for the second time with a rasping forehand for 4-1, and after a successful Hawkeye challenge from Russell on the first match point, the champion duly converted his second.
