World No. 11 Andy Murray has been awarded a wild card into the 2014 Shenzhen Open. The inaugural edition of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament will be played 20-28 September at the Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center, a state-of-the-art facility with more than 20 outdoor match courts.

Od sledeće sezone vraća se WTA turnir u Antverpenu. ATP turnir iz Čilea se seli u Ekvador.

China poised for another multi million dollar event

WTA CEO Stacey Allaster have confirmed that a new tournament with a prize money value of $USD 2.15 Million called the “Elite Trophy Zhuhai" will take place from 2015-2019. The tournament will replace the current Tournament of Champions which has been held in Bulgaria since 2009.

The tournament will be in a similar format to the year end WTA Tour Championships but for players ranked 9-20 plus a wild card entrant. The tournament will consist in a four group round robin format featuring both singles and doubles events. On the official WTA website Allaster released a brief statement.

"This brand new event combining great players, a fantastic new stadium and the magnificent location of Zhuhai is a formula that will make the WTA Elite Trophy a success,"
"Thanks to the commitment and vision of the Zhuhai government, Huafa Group and Ace Pro Group - APG, the fan experience will be exciting and inspirational, and we will showcase women's tennis and this beautiful city to a global audience through broadcast, digital and social media."

This will now be the sixth Chinese WTA tournament to take place in 2015 after Shenzhen (January), Guangzhou (September), Wuhan (September-October), Beijing (October) and Tianjin (October).

The power of China

The WTA has been expanding into China due to the rapid rise of interest in the sport. The rise of the interest has been attributed to Li Na's numerous triumphs as well as other players such as Peng Shuai. Last year sports marketing firm Gemba concluded that 48% of the Chinese population are tennis fans based on their research. Out of the fans 39% of them was aged 16-29. Furthermore Chinese market research company Daxue Consulting places tennis as the third most watch sport in China after football and basketball. They also claim that the new emerging tennis market in China is generating an outstanding $4 Billion a year based on research conduced by professor Tom Cannon.

MALLORY BURDETTE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

JACKSON, GA, USA - Mallory Burdette, one of the most promising young Americans in the women's game, has had to call time on her professional tennis career because of a nagging shoulder injury.

After a glittering college career Burdette moved to the pros in 2012, catching the tennis world's eye at her first WTA event in Stanford - after reaching the second round, she stormed out to a 5-2 lead Marion Bartoli, with set point, before the then-Top 10 player came back to win the match in straight sets.

Burdette kept it up over the next year, reaching the third round three times at WTA events (including the US Open) and twice pushing Top 20 players to three sets (Maria Kirilenko and Jelena Jankovic).

But a shoulder injury that kept her out the last few months of 2013 just hasn't let up in 2014, and the American - who just turned 23 earlier this year - has had to close the curtain on her career.
