World no.1 and 13-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has won Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award in the ceremony which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This is the third time that Rafael Nadal has won a Laureus award, as he previously won Newcomer of the year award in 2006 and Player of the year award in 2011.
The Spaniard was nominated for his amazing comeback last year, as came back after a 7-month break and ended up winning 2 Grand Slams, 5 Masters 1000 events and a total of 10 titles.
After surprisingly losing to a low ranked player Lukas Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon in 2012, Nadal kept nursing his knee injury and stayed away from ATP Tour for seven straight months. He made a comeback in February 2013 and had one of the best seasons of his career, winning two Grand Slams, five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles and regaining number one rank in the world.
Nadal has had ups and downs in this season so far, losing to Stanislas Wawrinka in the final of Australian Open, winning Rio Open, getting upset in the third round of BNP Paribas Open.
The Spaniard is bidding to win his maiden Miami title this week, as he had reached the quarter-final of the Sony Open Tennis. He will take on 12th seed Milos Raonic of Canada for a place in the last four of this Masters event.
Nadal was also nominated for World Player of the Year award but that went to his countryfellow Sebastian Vettel, the Formula One racer.
17-time Grand Slam champion and one of Nadal's biggest rivals, Roger Federer won this award for 4 consecutive times from 2005 to 2008, whereas Novak Djokovic won this award in 2012.
I will not walk your dusty path and flat,
denoting this and that by this and that,
your world immutable wherein no part
the little maker has with Maker's art.
I bow not yet before the Iron Crown,
nor cast my own small golden sceptre down.
