Top seed and last year's runner-up Janko Tipsarevic, who is battling to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, advanced to the Kremlin Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Serbian knocked out 2008 champion Igor Kunitsyn of Russia 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-0 in one hour and 55 minutes, converted six of his nine break point opportunities. It was his 45th match win of the season, highlighted by his first ATP World Tour title at Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 (d. Baghdatis).

"I am very motivated to do well in these last few tournaments in order to try and finish in the Top 10 and maybe qualify for London," he said. "I was sick in the last two weeks and had not played a match for nine days. The first match at a tournament is always tough so I am happy I could finish very strong."

Tipsarevic next faces sixth-seeded Russian Dmitry Tursunov, a semi-finalist in Moscow six years ago (l. to Andreev), whom he trails 2-1 in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head. "He beat me in a very tough match in Tokyo two weeks ago so I am looking for a revenge," said the Serbian.

Top seed Janko Tipsarevic moved into the semi-finals of the Kremlin Cup with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 6 seed Dmitry Tursunov on Friday.

The Serbian broke Tursunov to start the match and closed out the first set in 34 minutes, saving three break points in the final game.

After the Russian denied Tipsarevic four opportunities to break serve in the opening game of the second set, Tursunov dropped serve in his next service game, giving the World No. 14 a 2-1 lead. Tipsarevic held comfortably the rest of the way through to advance in one hour and 16 minutes, evening his FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series with Tursunov to a 2-2 record.

"It was my best match in a long time but now it will be even tougher against Davydenko," said Tipsarevic. "It is not great to play against three Russian players in Moscow but the crowd has been very fair, applauding my good shots."

Tipsarevic, who lifted his first ATP World Tour trophy in Kuala Lumpur (d. Baghdatis), has an outside chance of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, entering the week in 13th place in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Year-To-Date Rankings. He moved up to No. 11 with Friday's win, and can jump to No. 10 should he win the title.

Mislim da ovde ni Novaka nikad nije bilo toliko po gradu koliko trenutno ima Janka u gaćama

Inače jako mi se dopada kako igra Moskvu. Ne toliko zbog igre koja je stvarno povremeno fenomenalna, koliko zbog pristupa vidim kod njega neki fokus u toku celog meča koji nisam primećivala ranije. Prvo se nije po običaju smorio posle izgubljenog 1. seta u TB-u s Kunjicinom, pa ni posle kad je komotno poveo nije bilo opuštanja, nego maksimalno profesionalno uništavanje do kraja to kod Janka dosad nisam viđala. O jučerašnjem meču da ne trošim reči, nije dopustio da ga išta deekoncentriše, posebno onaj gem kad je imao 0:40 i spasao ga.
Ako tako nastavi stvarno je favorit danas protiv Kolje, nadam se da me neće brže-bolje demantovati čim ga ishvalih

Bravo Janko!!! Posle prva 4 izgubljena finala, sad je red da se dobiju 4.. Al treba da se prijavljuje za one 250ice gde je slobodan u 1r, mnogo je da se dobiju 5 meceva u nizu
